Down To Oil

2025

Single-channel video. 1 min 40 sec.

Anchored in the Huiyi’s personal history and observed collective experiences, Down to Oil is a performative video that critically examines the complex and often painful process of identity reconstruction faced by educated Asian female migrants redirected into down-skilled labour. A Mandarin narration acts as an internal monologue of confession, while the English subtitles are not a direct translation but function as a literary counterpart.
